Hell in Carousell Part 1
@ 21:29
So this post is basically to rant about the unusual and unreasonable people/situations which I've encountered in Carousell.
For the benefit of those turtles out there who don't know whats Carousell, it's basically a Singapore based mobile app that provides a platform for people to sell and buy stuff (and haggle).
1. Time Waster
Recently I saw a pretty neat and nice romper by chance but the photos attached to it weren't very detailed, so I asked the seller for a full body photo of the romper. Turns out that the picture sent to me by the seller and the picture attached to the item is quite different, especially with regards to the color since its a very vibrant floral print.
So, to courteously reject the offer and end the conversation, I told the seller that I'm a UK4 and since the romper is a UK6, I'll have to think about it.
The next thing I knew was that she replied "What a time waster".
To be honest, I'm pretty amazed by her reply, I mean, theres actually sane people who treats their potential customer in this sort of manner. Well, can't blame her, it was pretty obvious that I was trying to reject the offer, maybe she's just not good enough to realise.
2. Free Postage
I don't just buy stuff from Carousell, I sell too. I sell away my old, unwanted but brand new stuff which I've bought of impulse.
My policy for selling is
- No meetups
- No trades
- No negotiations
and since I don't do meetups (for personal reasons like lazy), I will of course have to charge a certain price for the postage that I will be paying for mailing each item out.
So there was this person who asked me "if you don't do meetups then shouldn't your postage fees be free?" and so I answered that I don't have the capital to do these kind of stuff. And very unexpectedly, the argument of whether I should be paying for the postage fee or whether the buyer should goes on for quite a while. I don't blame her for asking for free postage, maybe she's on tight budget and can only afford the bare minimum of the price of the item which she's interested it. Or maybe she's just another typical Carousell user who haggles even for something that already cost just $5.
My point is, there are many online platforms with people selling only ONLINE without any meetups (including Qoo10 and blogshops like LB, TCL, TTR, AforArcade and many more) who charges a price for the postage fee that you know you will definitely incur. Maybe some of them are kind enough to give free postage but that's probably because they have the capital to do so.
So, if you just feel that paying a postage fee is unfair then I suggest that you deal with someone else.
Other unusual but common (maybe not unreasonable) situations I've come across be basically be summarised by the picture below.

Pineapple or Tomato?
@ 22:34
I've recently came across this post about ridiculous hairstyles on Distractify and thought I should share with you especially about 2 of the hairstyles in that post.
The first one is the.. PINEAPPLE hair!
Pineapples have been a trend for awhile now, I don't mean eating pineapples is a trend, I mean clothes with pineapple prints nowadays is a trend. Actually, even I myself own one of these pineapples printed top. This guy with the pineapple hair really took it to the next level and I am very impressed with the hair stylist.
The next one is.. I know you already guess it, its the TOMATO hair!
Tomato aren't as popular as pineapples but maybe it will be in the future! Nonetheless, this girl is seriously brave for her to decide to get such a hairstyle. Actually, I'm quite amused by this! :x
Anyway, that's all for today, I just wanted to share these 2 fruits.. I mean hairstyles with you.
Bye!

Clock Gene
@ 07:05
How I hope I could say that to myself.
Recently I came across this article about sleep so I thought I should talk about this a little more.
A little about my own sleep cycle, I've probably said this before (I'm not very sure) but I'm nocturnal and just so you know I'm blogging at 6am in the morning not because I just woke up but because I haven't gone to sleep yet. Anyway, I don't have a very healthy lifestyle because I sleep more than 8 hours a day, which is not efficient and I end up being very tired for the entire day.
So, back to the article, it is actually about people who can stay awake for an unnatural amount of time before needing to sleep and on top of that, needing very little amount of sleep or none at all.
Apparently there's a gene which scientist call "Period 3" or "Clock Gene" that is responsible for needing less sleep. (Oh man, how I hope I have this gene..) Most of us probably needs an average of 8 hours of sleep per day while people with Period 3 need as little as 4 hours per day to feel fresh and energetic for the rest of the day.
Our perception of how rested we are, affects how we feel during the day.
On the other hand, there was an interesting study in Berkeley that measures how much sleep a group of insomniacs actually got as compared to what they think they actually had. Surprisingly, the result of the study shows that these insomniacs only receive about on average 35 minutes less sleep than those who had no trouble sleeping, yet when they were asked how long have they (thought to have) slept, the answer was 2-3 hours. After they were told the actual amount of sleep they actually had, amazingly many of the symptoms of sleep depravation disappeared.
So, in many ways, our perception of how rested we are, affects how we feel during the day.
For those who are not lucky enough to have the exclusive clock gene (including myself), you would probably be surviving the night by dosing on energy drinks like Redbull and Coffee. But of course, the medical industries are not just idling around, there's a drug, Modafinil, which mimics the effect of Clock Gene and allow the user to sleep for just 4-5 hours before waking up feeling refreshed. Another new drug that is currently being tested, CX717, is said to allow user to stay awake for 36 hours or more without having side effects like caffeine.
Personally, I'm not very supportive of such drugs though, but I am very much addicted to caffeine. If normal people were to go 36 hours without sleep, even if there are no side effects similar to caffeine, it's probably going to spoil our liver since our liver is also working 36 hours without rest. I'm sure many of you have heard that our liver's repair time is effective from 11pm to 3am, letting your liver work instead of rest during that time for a prolonged period will definitely cause some negative effects on your liver and body. So I suggest, to those who are on such drugs, to consume only when necessary.
I should go to sleep soon and rest my mind and body.
Goodnight.

Introduction & More
@ 18:28
Since this is my first post, I should give a little introduction about myself and my life right now so you can get a better idea about me.
The first thing you would probably want to know is about my URL. Why EgoisticJournal? As simple as you can think of, it is just because I see myself as a very egoistic person (but maybe not, to others). The main reasons are probably:
1. Self-centered. Most things I decide to do are to benefit myself and I exclude my participation when I see no benefits.
2. I love myself. Yes, I have flaws but I embrace them as much as I can and it doesn't really matter to me whether people accepts my ideals or not, as long as I myself do.
3. Enjoys compliments. I mean, who doesn't, right? I doubt anybody would want to be disparaged.
Moving on...,
as I have mentioned in my "Profile" page at the side, I am currently majoring in Mathematical Science in which is because it is my best subject (maybe out of 9 other subjects which I've come across in my entire life) and it's also my interest. I'm now in my second year and somewhat struggling to keep up with school work (please don't learn from me). I blame this on my childish idea that Maths is all about numbers, and probably 2 alphabets, x and y. But I am terribly wrong, because now, Maths is nothing about numbers and everything about alphabets, from a to z. At this point of time, my Graphic Calculator is not of any help anymore. I have long known that college is a place that emphasise on self-discipline. During my first year of study, I thought to myself, "hey, college is not that difficult after all. Just a little consistency and 2 weeks worth of studying before exams can give me a pass.". But now, it's a different story. Maybe because my modules are getting difficult, maybe because I am getting even lazier or maybe because all along my thought is wrong. Getting a pass is not so simple anymore as I have learnt in my previous few midterm exams. Only after, that I realised I needed to put in so much more extra effort to make up for what I've lost. And because of that, I have many sleepless nights and my body clock is totally screwed up (much more than any of you), because I sleep in the morning and I study in the middle of the night.
All these requires my all-time favourite,
Coffee.
Every night, this happens.
I'm guessing thats enough information about Maths and depression. Maybe I should tell you more about my part-time cheerleading experience.
This may be what you think cheerleading is but no. I don't carry pom poms and wear long skirts and stand in front of some field and wave around with my pom poms.
But this is really what I actually do. If you are interested to see even more, you can take a look at the video below.
Okay, maybe not this extreme (this is really high level), but something simpler and easier but similar.
So, I took up this sports because it is available in all halls and I've always wanted to try it. Since my hall offers such an opportunity, why not?
I've been cheering for 1.5 years, still not very good but I guess passable. Different people have different views on cheerleading, some thinks that its a dangerous sports and not worth the effort and time, well, I agree that it is dangerous, but cheerleading is a kind of sports that satisfy you with a sense of achievement, and that can only be reached if you put in that enough effort and time. Needless to say, to me, this sort of "sense of achievement" is something really addictive. Through cheerleading, people learn to trust, and I mean putting your life in the hands of your base, trusting that he will not let you fall to the ground and kill you.
All in all, I just want to say,
I LOVE CHEERLEADING.
Putting aside studies and cheering, I do have my own hobbies and interests.
I am very into watching Animes, thats Japanese Animated Production. Yes, I know many of you will think that Animes are for guys (ohwells..), but actually a bunch of girls, maybe just a little less than guys are actually like me. (Probably just that they don't say it) I watch all sorts of Animes, almost any genre. I think I am quite selective, but I can't really put into words the kind of criteria I look for when I choose what to watch and what not to watch. My favourite one is of course, Detective Conan.
I think many of you might have heard of this because it's a pretty old Anime. Actually it's first episode was produced in 1996 (pretty old uh..). There was a recent movie on this as well. You can check out Wikipedia if you want to know more. Below are some facts about Detective Conan:
1. It is still ongoing.
2. It has 756 episodes up till date.
3. Produced 18 movies.
So for me, I've basically finished around 750 episodes and 14 movies (yes, I think I am crazy). Just so you know, 1 episode is 24 minutes and 1 move is 90minutes. I don't really want to know how much time I've spent on Detective Conan instead of studying.
Anyway, for a good indication of the rest of the Animes I watch,
I know almost all the characters here, and honestly this is just a collage I grabbed off Google. So maybe (just maybe), I should have watched over a 100 different Animes. By the way, I don't watch these 24 hours okay, just in case you think I'm some introvert with the thought that Anime is my world. NO. I having been watching for more than 7 years so all these are accumulative!
Another thing that might shock you is that my favourite computer game is MapleStory.
I am pretty sure about 90% of you know whats MapleStory. But basically, it's a 2-Dimensional Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game(MMORPG). And the reason why it's my favourite? Because it's 2-DIMENSIONAL. I don't always play but when I have time, I would log in and explore the new stuffs (since MapleStory is always patching and updating). Just letting you know, I've played this game for like maybe 10 years.
So after all this information, I hope you don't judge me. But then again, even if you do, I don't really care either because like I said at the very start, I love myself.
